CharactersLeeming Bar Station, Wensleydale Railway
Unique illustrations to represent the people using and working at the station in the 1920s. Fashion plates, advertisements and references of the original uniform were used to create child-friendly but accurate characters. My characters can range from cute mascots and cartoons, to highly detailed character studies. |
Artefact ReconstructionsJORVIK Viking Centre
Reconstructions of archaeological artefacts were used in the Children's Guidebook to provide context for the objects on display in the museum. These were based on specific objects and the original archaeological research. I have done accurate reconstructions of costumes, buildings, landscapes and artefacts, working with experts to different levels of detail. |
Childrens TrailsCanons Ashby Christmas Trail
Developed to give the Christmas trail a bright and appealing look, matching the themes of the site and the trail itself. The characters and design elements could all be used individually to create a consistent look and feel to the whole trail. From designing simple worksheets to panels and displays, I have experience of developing children's trails for different contexts. |
Games & InteractivesRediscovering the Antonine Wall
Combining reconstruction characters, the mascot character and other design elements to create games that were unique to the site and fitted the themes and colours of the exhibition. From colouring sheets to multi-part interactive displays, I enjoy turning a concept into a reality. I use my experience as an educator to highlight the learning objectives in a fun and memorable manner. |
DiagramsAncient Dust Busters, DIG
Using the accurate representations of microscopic particles used throughout the exhibition for a consistent style, the graphic helps show the complex scientific theory behind the exhibition for a family audience. From maps to science explanations, I have developed visual aids that can transform the ways that information can be displayed. I am happy to work with you developing the clearest way to convey your ideas. |
ComicsThis commission was a piece of story telling based on an oral history and family photos. The goal was to tell a clear and compelling narrative from the given material, creating something that would feel true to the memories of the people involved.
My style lends itself well to a comic format. Whether you want to tell the story of a character or to explain the timeline of a site, comics and cartoon strips can help convey a story even for people with language barriers making them an accessible and engaging format for all ages. |
Thematic StylesMagic and Mystery, Barley Hall
These images drew on original medieval prints to provide illustrations that would have the feel of the period while also illustrating very specific content in the panels. As one of the most visually significant parts of the exhibition, it was important that they were a consistent and coherent design element. My approach is very adaptable and the challenge of developing a visual shorthand to suit your needs is a key part of the services I offer. |
Design ElementsThe Priory Benefice Branding
Design elements like icons and logos can help combine several identities and help them feel unified. Here, the visual identity of each church was crucial to help people understand that they were all now part of one group. These icons are used throughout the benefice individually and as a group in a variety of contexts and sizes to help visually communicate when and where events are happening. When producing these design elements I can provide a full package of graphics to create your own unique brand and maintain consistency across multiple formats and uses. |
KDP CoversBespoke covers developed with the authors for use with Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing. These have been used for both digital and print versions of the books. These were carefully designed through close reading of the text and dialogue with the authors to reflect the tone and content of the books and to make them stand out.
